Château Peyredon Lagravette (Organic)

Region: Bordeaux

Red Wine
2016 Haut Médoc

In 2009, Laurence and Stéphane Dupuch of Château Sainte Marie found out that this small, prized estate was for sale. They did not hesitate to add this Haut Médoc property to their holdings as they and Stéphane’s father Gilles Dupuch had always wanted to make wine in the Médoc region of Bordeaux. This 4.2-hectare estate, straddling the border between the Listrac and Moulis appellations is surrounded by the prized estates of Château Poujeaux, Chasse Spleen and Maucaillou on the Grand Poujeaux hill that is well known to have the finest vineyards in the area. Held by the Holstein family for two centuries, it passed to the Dupuch family whose goal was to produce traditional styled wines from organically grown grapes. Although technically retired, this has become a labor of love for Gilles Dupuch who drove daily from his home in the Entre deux Mers region to carry out much of the work in the cellars.

The vineyards were replanted between 1956-1961 using the historic selection massale wood from the previous vineyards. Organic viticulture is norm now. Vine density is 9600 vines per hectare.

The goal here is to produce a traditional styled wine with modern equipment and techniques where possible. Thermo regulation during fermentation in stainless steel vats is followed by 14 months aging in 1/3 new French oak barrels.
