Domaine Manciat-Poncet

Region: Burgundy

White Wine
2017 Mâcon-Charnay, Les Chênes
2017 Pouilly-Fuisse, Vieilles Vignes

Marie-Pierre Manciat's father Claude was one of a handful of top-flight producers in the Maconnais area. Up until the early 1980's, his wines were sold in bulk to local negociants, but shifting market trends during that period made it possible for a small producer to make a good living bottling his own wine. The domaine is actually split up into two parts. The Mâcon producing estate is located in Charnay, just outside of Mâcon, and these vines came from Claude’s side of the family (Manciat) while the Pouilly-Fuissé vineyards in the village of Vergisson belonged to his wife’s family (Poncet). Together their estate comprises approximately 12 hectares of vines and all wines are estate bottled. Vinification for the Pouilly-Fuissé consists of 100% barrel fermentation in 50% new oak. The wines go through their malo-lactic fermentation as well lending them the classic, buttery mouth feel we associate with great white burgundy. The wines express the purity of fruit with a nice amount of toasted oak and possess the classic tropical fruit and mineral aromas which we associate with wines from Pouilly-Fuissé and Mâcon. Since 2003, the estate has been in the hands of Marie-Pierre Manciat, daughter of Claude & Simone, who is taking the winery to new heights yet.
