On August 17, 2016, two weeks before harvest, the Pic Saint Loup village of Lauret experienced one of the most devastating hailstorms in recent memory. In a matter of minutes, most vines in the village were completely stripped of leaves and grapes. Soon after, Christophe Peyrus and Françoise Julien of Clos Marie began receiving calls from their winegrowing friends of the Languedoc and by harvest time, they were on the receiving end of grapes, donated by the most prestigious producers in the area, to help fill the mostly empty vats.
The result is a gorgeous wine of impeccable pedigree. Lush, dark colored with generous layers of spicy fruit, this wine drinks well now but will cellar well for several years.
