Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is a deeply colored rosé wine made from the Montepulciano grape. Because of the dark pigmentation of the skins, even minimal skin contact with the must will result in a substantial darker rosé than is the norm.
The organically grown grapes are hand-harvested in small baskets in late September or Early October, depending on the year. The type of vintage will also decide whether the grapes are left to macerate a few hours on their skins or whether the grapes are directly pressed to produce a lighter rosé. After this time, the free-run juice is then fermented at cool temperatures until dry.
Deep red for a rosé, the wine is remarkably fruity showing pungent berry notes in the nose along with some spice and even citrus. On the palate, the wine has a somewhat saline mineral texture balanced with the forward fruit concentration. Long and persistent, this is a terrific food wine that will go with most anything you wish. |
